In this episode of Mother Earth News and Friends, Brett McLeod and Camille Goethals from Paul Smith’s College share about how students and staff work with horses at the college in their forestry programs. They give tips on what to look for when buying a horse and what pony and work horse breeds are best for a small farm or homestead.

Brett McLeod, Ph.D. is a Professor of natural resources and Chair of the Forestry Department at Paul Smith’s College. McLeod has worked with the US-AID sponsored Farmer to Farmer program in the Dominican Republic where he focused on agro-forestry, community forestry, and watershed management. His other interests include homesteading, working with horses, and enjoying the Adirondack Park.  McLeod is the author of The Woodland Homestead: How to make your land more productive and live more self-sufficiently in the woods (Storey Publishing, 2015) and American Axe: The Tool that Shaped a Continent (Storey Publishing, 2020).
