Keeping a gardening journal is a great way to build up a record of your gardening experience so you can learn from the things that work – and those that don’t!
You can use your gardening journal to keep track of what was sown, planted, tended and harvested, or to record any pests or diseases in your garden. Over time this makes it easy to refer back to previous years, refine your methods to suit your garden’s unique growing conditions, and make each gardening year even better than the last.
Introducing the Garden Journal
The number-one most requested feature by users of our Vegetable Garden Planner is a garden journal to help record what’s going on in your garden. We’ve used feedback to create a fantastic Garden Journal that makes tracking progress in the garden quick and easy. It can be used on any Internet-connected smartphone, tablet, or computer, and you can instantly upload photos and notes from your device. Our Garden Journal will help you to learn with every observation, note and photo you add. And it’s completely free to use!
Using Your Garden Journal
To open the Garden Journal, login to your Garden Planner account and select the Garden Journal link. The Journal will automatically show the current week, but you can also view other weeks using the Timeline at the top of the page.
Add notes, observations, and ideas, or select any of the Planting, Watering, Tending or Harvesting options to record your gardening progress. The Tending option also includes options for Weeding, Fertilizing, Transplanting, Mulching and Pruning.
The icons and Add buttons display your activity as you add more records, and the Timeline provides a snapshot of your weekly activity.
Add photos from a folder on your computer or device, or take a photo on your phone or tablet to upload it to your Journal straight away.
It’s easy to edit anything, at any time. To edit an entry from a previous week, select the week from the Timeline then ‘Edit it’.
Plan Ahead with the Garden Journal
Select a future week to add a reminder. Make a note to yourself, and add a related plant too if you wish. Your reminder will be logged for reference, and can be edited or deleted at any time.
Future weeks display typical temperature highs and lows, while the current week includes a more detailed weather forecast so you can plan the best days for your gardening tasks.
Look back at previous weeks, months and years as your Garden Journal develops to see what you did when, or add reminders for the following season based on what you’ve learned this year.
Visit our Garden Journal page to learn more and start using the journal.
